PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I am humbled that you have entrusted me to lead and serve you as President this year.  You have my unwavering commitment to make a difference for you and for our community.  We will have the following three (3) priorities:  Membership; Organizational Structure; and Service

Our first priority is increasing membership.  We will partner with business and other organizations to provide invaluable benefits to our members/you.  We will provide insightful cutting edge CLEs to promote professional growth and development of our members.  We will also provide various social and networking events throughout the year to provide our members with opportunities to market and grow their practice areas/firm and build valuable relationships.

To ensure that we effectively and efficiently serve our growing membership, we will assess and make necessary changes to our organizational structure.  Divisions are being established that correspond to the overall demographic groups of our organization.  Sections are also being created according to practice areas in order to provide our members with the ability to periodically conference with other attorneys statewide and discuss emerging issues in their respective practice area.  The sections will also serve as an information resource to attorneys who are interested in growing/expanding their practice.

Finally, we will remain committed and vigilant advocates for justice, equality, fairness and diversity in the legal community and the community as a whole.  We will be guided and inspired by the mission proclaimed by our founders. It is important that we help ensure access to the justice system; increase economic parity for the less fortunate, underprivileged and disadvantaged of our society; and educate the community (particularly the Black community) on the need for empowerment and self-determination.  To help us serve our community, we encourage you as you get into your C.A.R.S. each day to be committed  as Community Advocates Ready to Serve so that we can be social engineers and change agents throughout the State of Florida.

Thank you for the opportunity to lead and serve you and thank you in advance for your continued support of the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association.  Remember – “Service is the rent we pay for our room here on earth.”  Madam C.J. Walker.
